The Benefits of Keyhole Gardens

The concept of keyhole gardens began in Lesotho, Africa. Keyhole Farm was one of the earliest pioneers in the United States to adopt this concept, which is a near-perfect gardening system. We realized that keyhole gardening could do much to enhance the experience of gardening and the output of crops, while playing a key role in self-sufficiency. This resulted in our invention of the original keyhole garden kit.

Keyhole gardens offer numerous advantages. They conserve water. They are easier on the back due to the raised-bed format. They promote recycling. Plants can be located closer together than in traditional gardens, They are a compact way of raising crops. They meet ADA guidelines and are more easily accessible for the elderly and youngsters. They are great educational tools and are being used in schools throughout the country to teach students about raising their own crops. The output of crops is one of abundance. They allow gardeners to control their own soil. They offer the opportunity to pleasantly get back to nature.

Book: Plant Your Garden in a Keyhole

Keyhole gardens are circular in shape, are a raised bed, and are designed with an entryway to an internal basked used to recycle left-overs which feed the garden. From a bird's-eye view, they resemble an old-timey keyhole you might find in a door, thus the name.
